Economic Development Week Business Profiles

Economic Development Week is May 6-11! We continue to invite local businesses to submit business profiles for Economic Development Week. Please review the details of the event here, and enjoy the Business Profiles (in chronological order of submission) below:

Riverdale Park Station:
Riverdale Park Station is a mixed used development that was redesigned with the intent of creating a new sustainable urban development, that provides residents and visitors the opportunity to live and work on site. The property is a mix of residential and retail, with some of our tenants being Whole Foods MarketGold's GymDenizens Brewing CoBurtons Grill & Bar of Riverdale Park and more. To us, economic development means achieving sustainability through the efficient use of resources such as control water runoff from the site, easy access to the Metro system at College Park, the MARC system at Riverdale Park, the future Purple Line station on River Road, and trail and pedestrian connections onsite.

Geppetto Catering:
When we began 30 years ago, we were located in Bethesda, MD. Soon afterward, we moved to D.C., making the Town of Riverdale Park our home. At that time, we were providing D.C.’s corporate offices with drop-off catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings. Today, we’re still providing those companies with catering, but we’ve grown to support local weddings, graduations, and other celebrations. Throughout our 20 year growth, one thing that has remained the same is our mission and dedication to helping support our community. Whether it’s by providing jobs to those in the area, or supporting local businesses, we know that the best way to help business bloom is by investing in the people of our beautiful community.

Madre USA Corp aka 250 TEXAS BBQ:
MADRE USA CORP is a company doing business in Maryland as 250 Texas BBQ. We are a family business with more than 50 years of experience in the food industry in El Salvador, and we are ready to take the next step opening shop at Riverdale Park! For us, Economic Development involves the well being and progress of the community by keeping the existing businesses, growing them and welcoming new ones.

Business continues to grow in leaps in bounds, “Eighty-five percent of business is loyal customers who come in day in, day out. They are the people who’ve kept us here,” Georgia says. Home delivery has also rocketed sales by 40 percent, she notes. The Riverdale Park landmark pumps out a tasty and impressive selection of hot, homemade foods including complete dinner entrees, soups, pizzas, subs, daily specials and salads.

Natoli Place Apartments
A Garden Spot in Downtown Riverdale Park!

“It's not often that you can live across the street - or railroad tracks - from two restaurants, the Town Center Market, two Latino markets, and the weekly Farmers Market, and have a vegetable garden,” observes Suzanne Knapik, who’s called The Pink Houseon Natoli Place home for two years. “It is kinda cool being in the center of town but having a porch -- or three porches to sit on and talk to neighbors while enjoying the fruits of one's gardening labor. And I love our peace sign!”

Knapik speaks for many in the 12-unit community that includes the adjacent Brick House, separated by a residents’ gardening plot. The property is owned-managed by Yorke Partners, a 37-year-old family-operated company.

Riviera Tapas Bar, Uniquely Riverdale Park
Riviera Tapas Bar is a family-owned business that “started as a dream and became a reality after many years of work and experience earned working at other restaurants,” says Patricia Bonilla, who with husband and Executive Chef Hugo Bonilla debuted the world-taste, small plate operation in mid-February. "Our goal is to bring diversity meals into small dishes where customers can enjoy great selections," notes Patricia, who manages the front of the house and tends bar. While tapas are traditionally Spanish, Riviera has taken them a step further by adding individual styles of Latin American countries with new varieties of meats, fish and vegetables, tastes and presentations to the restaurant’s lineup.
